Surfacant tanks at BCI emulsion plant

This plant has two surfacant tanks. Each has a capacity of 8,500 gallons and stores surfacants such as Indulin® AA-83 from MeadWestvaco. This material is made from fatty amine derivatives.

Surfacants are liquid additives used to stabilize the emulsion. They are surface-active substances that help keep the minute particles of the emulsion in uniform suspension so the emulsion does not change significantly while in storage.

The tanks are insulated and heated electrically. They have pressure transmitters for level indications and have sampling valves.
